About us
The Folks Behind the Notes
Hobby beekeepers, not professors. We write the guide we wish we'd had in our first spring.
Why this exists
Every one of us started the same way: excited, then buried in terms nobody explained. "Check the supers, watch for supersedure, mind your nuc." We'd nod along and go home confused. So we started keeping a notebook that translated everything into normal words. Friends kept borrowing it. This site is that notebook, tidied up.
"If we can't explain it to a curious neighbour over the fence, we haven't explained it."
Our only house rule
How we write
- Plain words first. If a technical term is genuinely useful, we explain it right there, and in the jargon buster boxes.
- Facts get checked against trusted sources: national bee units, beekeeping associations, and well-known books like The Beekeeper's Handbook and Thomas D. Seeley's Honeybee Democracy.
- We say "it depends" only when we also say what it depends on.
- We fix mistakes as soon as we hear about them. Readers have caught a few already. Thank you.

Independent, properly
We don't sell gear, take payment for mentions, or run ads. We're not affiliated with the British Beekeepers Association, the American Beekeeping Federation, any supplier, or any government body. When we name a book or organisation, it's because we found it useful.
What we're not
We're not vets, bee inspectors, or lawyers. For a sick colony, contact your local bee inspector or association. For rules about where you can keep bees, ask your council. We'll point you in the right direction, but they have the final word.
